The tour starts with a Welcome to Country and Smoking ceremony. On this tour, you get to walk to the rock wells up Mt Tarrengower, explore and learn about the aboriginal history of the area.

This tour is lead by Aunty Marilyne Nicholls.

About the Tour


  • Meeting time: 9:45am for 10 am start

  • Concludes: around 4pm

  • Duration: 6 hours

  • Meeting location: Mt Tarrengower campground

  • We will be going for a walk to Mt Tarrengower with local elder, learning about the Dja Dja Wurrung history of the area

  • Welcome to country and smoking ceremony

  • See the artefacts, hear the stories

  • 
1 hour lunch break, with picnic hamper provided

  • Walk back to campground at 4 pm

 

Cancellation Policy


A refund is available up to 72 hours before the workshop, a fee of $35 will be deducted for credit card fee and handling.

  • Cancellation within 72 hours will incur a booking and handling fee of 50% of the ticket price.

  • Alternatively, the full amount may be transfer to another cultural tour, or you may gift your tour pass to a friend.

  • Refunds are not available for non-attendance without notice.

Cancellation due to COVID-19: If you need to cancel with less than 72 hours notice due to COVID-19 illness, suspected COVID-19 illness or imposition of restrictions, a full refund will be granted if you're unable to transfer your Workshop Pass to a friend. Alternatively, you can choose to receive a credit towards a future cultural tour.

If the workshop is cancelled due to COVID-19 or for any other reason, you will receive the option of a full refund or a credit towards a future cultural tour date of your choice.

About Aunty Marilyne Nicholls


Master weaver and acclaimed artist, Aunty Marilyne has lived most of her life around the Murray (Milloo) River system and its waterways. She was encouraged to learn how to weave by her mother and taught where to find and how to harvest the native grasses that she uses for weaving. She has been part of the Centre for Culture, based in the Bendigo region and has been running basket weaving workshops to local communities and has been a predominant figure in keeping her culture alive. Her ancestral lineage is Dja Dja Wurrung, Barrappa Barrappa, Yorta Yorta, Watti Watti, Latji Latj, Yulpagulp & Ngarrindjeri Tribes.

 

FAQ


What should I wear?

Be prepare for all types of weather (as you do in Melbourne!), a water proof jacket in case it gets cold and wet. Do wear sensible closed toe shoes. Be sure to bring a hat and sunnies.

What should I bring?

Do bring your own bottle of water. We also strongly advice for you to prepare your own sunscreen and fly spray. Lunch will be provided, but bring some snacks if you wish.

Do I need to be fit to join the tour?

We will be walking together at a casual pace. There will be plenty of time to stop and rest. So all fitness level are welcomed at this tour.

Are there any toilets / facilities up in the mountain?

Lunch will be taken at a site where there are toilets.

Can you provide transfer to/from the meeting point?

Sure! If you require transfer just let us know! We can arrange that for you for a small fee.
